About Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL)

RVNL Ltd., formerly known as Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd., is a young business in India’s rail infrastructure market. RVNL was established in 2003 under the Ministry of Railways to expedite the execution of rail infrastructure projects. RVNL develops and implements projects to build and enhance rail infrastructure, as well as mobilizes financial resources for said projects. The company manages rail projects that include building workshops, bridges, gauge conversion, doubling tracks, new railway tracks, and electrification.

What does RVNL do?

Railway projects are carried out by RVNL on behalf of several federal and state government agencies. This covers metro projects, port connectivity projects, etc. Rail electrification projects, gauge conversion of railway lines, the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, and the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor are a few of the significant projects that RVNL has completed. RVNL uses an asset-light business model. It carries out project execution while the relevant entity that assigned the project maintains ownership of the assets.

The primary source of income is from fees and commissions received during a project. A set percentage fee based on project costs is paid to the company. Over the next eight to ten years, RVNL has the potential to be a multi-bagger stock due to its strong financial performance and positive industry trends.

When the project is completed, it will cut the travel time between major cities in Chennai—Tirunelveli, Chennai—Nagercoil, and Chennai—Kanyakumari by 25%. After this project is finished, additional trains can be added and passengers can purchase “seat on demand.”
